Salmon fishing and trout fishing on the river Orchy, Scotland

The River Orchy is a 12 mile stretch of one of the most scenic salmon fishing rivers in Scotland. It flows south from Loch Tulla, turning south west at the Bridge of Orchy, then onwards through Glen Orchy, and Strath of Orchy before turning west and finishing at Loch Awe.

The salmon fishing season on the River Orchy, Scotland runs from February 11th to October 15th. Fly fishing, spinning and worm are permitted. However, this season salmon fishing is catch and release only, using barbless hooks to preserve and help increase fish stocks.

From the Southern tip of Loch Tula the river flows through seven beats (Auch, Loch Tulla, Inveroran, Upper Craig, Dalmally, Craig Lodge, Lower Craig beats).

This site promotes fishing along the whole of the Orchy River, but more specifically the Salmon fishing and trout fishing at the Craig Lodge beat. This is the beat that we come up to Scotland and fish every autumn. The beat offers superb salmon fishing in a spectacular and picturesque environment. Within this site you will see our travel logues and pictures from our salmon fishing trips, as well as some useful information on getting there, accommodation and booking fishing permits for the river.

Breathable chest waders

Who sells the best breathable chest waders? Here at the Orchy we are often clambering over fences and down banks in our breathable fishing waders. This can lead to snags and holes and the need for aquasure application by the fire of an evening. Do you know which company supplies the best neoprene or breathable chest waders? We have our favourites but what about you? Contact us at info@orchyfishing.co.uk with your wader recommendations.
